Akhnoor Firing, Jammu on High Alert
Citing possibilities that a few militants may have managed to infiltrate into India under cover firing by Pakistani rangers in the Akhnoor sector on Thursday night, security agencies stepped up alert levels in Jammu on Friday, say media reports.
The alert was put in place as nine-day Navratra and the Durga Puja festivities commence on Saturday. Lakhs of devotees visit the Vaishno Devi shrine during the period.
Two BSF jawans were critically injured in the firing at Nikowai Pargwal area of Akhnoor sector on Thursday.
