Women Sanitation Workers Shine in ‘Swachh Udaan’ Contest
The event comes in the midst of renewed hopes of a good showing for Bhopal on the forthcoming Swachhata Survekshan

To mark International Women’s Day on Saturday, Bhopal Municipal Corporation held a unique sports competition, ‘Swachh Udaan’, honouring its women sanitation workers with medals and trophies for their sporting achievements.
Mayor Malti Rai inaugurated the competition at Jawahar Bal Udyan and extended Women’s Day wishes to participants. MP Alok Sharma, MLA Bhagwandas Sabnani, and Municipal Chairperson Kishan Suryavanshi cheered on the contestants and praised the event for recognising the contribution of women sanitation workers.
The competition featured fun games like lemon-and-spoon race, musical chairs, and tug-of-war. In the lemon race, Preeti Dholpure (Zone 10) won first place, followed by Kesar (Zone 12) and Pooja (Zone 4). In musical chairs, Bhavna (Zone 16) took first place, while Sunita (Zone 8) and Rachna (Zone 19) secured second and third positions.
The tug-of-war saw a team of 20 emerging victorious. The winners were honoured with medals and trophies by Mayor Rai and Chairperson Suryavanshi, accompanied by councillors and members of the Mayor-in-Council. All participating teams were named after iconic women in Indian history, adding to the event’s significance.
BJP state president Vishnudutt Sharma congratulated the organisers over a phone call. Women councillors and sanitation workers wore coordinated outfits with matching caps, symbolising unity and celebration.
Beyond the winners, Babli (Zone 18) and Pooja Bairagi (Zone 5) secured fourth and fifth places in the lemon race. In musical chairs, Kavita (Zone 13) and Lalita (Zone 12) finished fourth and fifth. All participants received medals, reinforcing the spirit of encouragement and recognition.
Senior officials, including Additional Commissioners Tina Yadav, Devendra Chauhan, and Harshit Tiwari, along with Assistant Commissioner Kirti Chauhan, councillors, and health officers, attended the event, making it a grand success.
