Andhra Minister Quits over ‘Jagan for CM’; Rosaiah Asks Guv to Accept Resignation
Andhra Pradesh Women Development and Child Welfare Minister Konda Surekha resigned on Friday demanding installation of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy as Chief Minister. Chief Minister K Rosaiah late asked Governor ND Tiwari to accept the resignation.
In first signs of dissidence in Andhra Pradesh Congress, Konda Surekha tendered resignation insisting on Y S Jaganmohan Reddy being made Chief Minister.
According to reports, Rosaiah sent a letter to the governor recommending that her resignation be accepted.
Earlier, Surekha, after handing over her resignation letter to Governor N D Tiwari directly bypassing Chief Minister K Rosaiah, told reporters: “I am pained over the death of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. I cannot continue in a cabinet without YSR. At least now the Congress High Command should heed to the demand for Jagan to be made the Chief Minister.”
In the forefront of ‘Jagan for CM’ campaign from the day of YSR’s death, Surekha said that a section within the state Congress was stopping Jaganmohan from being chief minister.
She said her resignation was not to ‘threaten’ anyone and that it was ‘purely a personal decision’.
