Atala Video – Six Goa Cops Arrested: Reports
The Goa police on Thursday arrested six of its ranks, including a suspended senior inspector, for alleged links with an Israeli drug dealer, say media reports.
The accused, identified as senior police inspector Ashish Shirodkar, head constable Hussein Shaikh and four constables Saish Pokle, Sanjay Parab, Sandip Parab and Ramchandra Kankonkar – have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, added IANS news agency.
Deputy Inspector General of Police RS Yadav confirmed the aqrrests.
‘In all, six people have been arrested under the PCA and the NDPS Act by the Crime Branch for their links to Atala,’ he was quoted as saying.
He said all the six policemen were earlier attached to the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Goa police.
In a spy cam video that appeared on YouTube earlier this month, Yaniv Benaim alias Atala – an alleged drug dealer of Israeli origin – named Shirodkar, as the officer who used to sell drugs seized by the ANC back to the drug peddlers, the report said.
