Azam Khan sentenced to 2 years in hate speech case: Comment made against CM Yogi in Lok Sabha elections
SP leader Azam Khan has been sentenced to 2 years in the 2019 hate speech case. The MP-MLA Court of Rampur passed this verdict. Azam made offensive and inflammatory comments on CM-DM in an election meeting during the Lok Sabha elections. Its video also went viral.
On this, the BJP made a big fuss. After this, ADO Panchayat Anil Kumar Chauhan registered a case in Shehzad Nagar police station. Anil had accused Azam of giving inflammatory speech despite the code of conduct. A case was registered against Azam Khan in 3 sections.
Assistant Prosecution Advocate Sandeep Saxena said, “Azam has been sentenced in 3 sections. Two sections have been sentenced to 2 years each. While 1 section has been sentenced to 1 month. Azam has been sentenced for Inflammatory speech against the Chief Minister and the then DM.”
Earlier, on May 25, Azam Khan was acquitted in another case of hate speech. In 2019, Azam was acquitted by the Special MP/MLA Court of Rampur in the case of making objectionable comments on the PM. Azam was sentenced to 3 years by the lower court of MP/MLA in this case. After the sentence, his constitution was gone. After this, a by-election was held in this seat, in which BJP leader Akash Saxena, who had filed a case against Azam, was elected MLA.
Azam Khan was in jail for 27 months in separate cases. He was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on 19 May 2022. After this he was released from Sitapur District Jail on the morning of 20th May. During this time, his sons Abdullah Azam, Adib Azam and SP leader Shivpal Yadav were also present.
Another blow to SP leader Azam Khan. UP Government has withdrawn Azam Khan’s Y-category security. The SP of Rampur has called back the police line to the Y-rank gunner and the guard posted at the residence. A meeting of the State Level Security Committee was held on November 8 last year regarding the security of VVIPs. In it, the committee said that there is no justification for maintaining Y-category security for Azam Khan.
