Bengaluru Opposition meet ‘Zero added to zero is nothing’-Bommai’s dig ahead of key gathering
Opposition unity meeting, 26 parties reached: Lok Sabha seat sharing and new name of UPA will be discussed; Uniform Civil Code also on the agenda
To defeat the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the second meeting of the opposition parties begins today in Bengaluru. Congress General Secretary Venugopal told that 26 parties will participate in it.
Venugopal said- The meeting will be held from 11 am to 4 pm on Tuesday. Sonia and Rahul are also coming. Sonia Gandhi has invited the opposition parties for dinner this evening.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will also come today. Sharad Pawar will not come to Bangalore today. He will attend tomorrow’s meeting. Supriya Sule will also come along with Pawar.
According to sources, three main issues can be discussed in the agenda of the meeting of the opposition. First- unity of opposition in Lok Sabha elections, second- seat sharing and third- new name of UPA.
Apart from this, along with the Uniform Civil Code, Manipur violence, assembly elections in 5 states, the recent strategy of breaking the parties of BJP and its counter will also be discussed.
Telangana CM Chandrasekhar Rao, Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, former Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik have kept distance from this meeting.
On the other hand, BJP President JP Nadda has called a meeting of NDA on July 18 at Ashoka Hotel in Delhi. The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On NDA meeting, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said- I am surprised that Modi ji had said in Rajya Sabha that I alone am heavy on all the opposition.
If he alone is heavy on all the opposition then why is he calling 30 parties in the NDA meeting tomorrow. At least tell the names of those 30 parties. They are nervous about our meeting.
Before the meeting, Congress general secretaries KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Vivek Tankha and DK Shivakumar held a press conference. Venugopal got angry at reporters on the question of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and leader of opposition parties.
He said- Violence is going on in Manipur for 75 days. The Prime Minister is silent on this. The government wants the opposition to remain silent. There are bigger issues like disqualification of Rahul Gandhi’s membership of Parliament. The constitution and democracy of the country is in danger. You people do not raise questions on this.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said- Some leaders are not coming today, will come tomorrow and this meeting is going to be held tomorrow morning. The meeting will start at 11 am and leaders of all parties will address the nation at 4 pm. But after our Patna meeting, suddenly the Prime Minister thought of NDA. Efforts are being made to infuse a new life in the NDA.
