CBI Seizes Arms, Incriminating Documents from Padamsinh Patil’s House
In raids conducted at two houses of NCP leader Padamsinh Patil, the CBI has confiscated a large quantity of arms and ammunitions together with some incriminating documents. Patil is running charge of murdering his cousin and his driver.
According to sources, a CBI team under supervision of Western Region Joint Director Rishi Raj Singh conducted raids at two apartments owned by Patil in Colaba in south Mumbai late Thursday night.
Patil is accused of having murdered his cousin Pavan Raje Nimbalkar, a Congress leader, and his driver Samad Qazi in Navi Mumbai in July 2006.
The search operations at the apartments produced a huge quantity of arms, ammunitions, unaccounted cash of worth Rs 7,26, 000, some incriminating documents, powerful walkie-talkie sets, computers and CDs, informed a CBI official.
The recovered weapons included two rifles, one revolver, one pistol, a large quantity of ammunition and three swords.
The documents seized by the CBI pertain to a multimillion rupee fraud involving the Terna sugar factory, which Patil partly owns, and the murder case.
Patil, in CBI custody till Saturday, is among the six people arrested by the CBI in the Nimbalkar murder case. CBI investigations have also revealed a plot to kill anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, who had exposed the Terna sugar factory scam.
Following his arrest June 7, Patil was suspended from the NCP and top leaders sought to distance themselves from him.
