Chiranjeevi to Fast for United Andhra
Now actor-turned-politician and PRP chief Chiranjeevi is going to fast for a ‘United Andhra’, especially over the Telangana issue. The fast is to start on Thursday, said reports.
Chiranjeevi will begin his fast at Tirupati to express solidarity with those protesting against Telangana statehood.
The announcement came following Chiranjeevi’s consultation with his party’s MLAs on the issue in Hyderabad Wednesday morning.
However, like the Congress and TDP, PRP seems divided over the issue, too.
Sixteen PRP MLAs from the coastal and Rayalseema regions sent in their resignations last week and are putting pressure for supprt to a united Andhra. On the other hand, Telangana district leaders of PRP are up in arms and there are reports that those from Warangal and Karimnagar have already quit.
The Osmania University joint action committee and Kakatiya University students have meanwhile declared that they will boycott not just Chiru’s films, but those of his family members too if PRP talks of a united AP.
Chiranjeevi had fought the Lok Sabha elections this year on a promise of statehood for Telangana.
