CID to Probe Tamang Murder Case
The CID will investigate the murder case of Gorkha leader and Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL) president Madan Tamang, said media reports citing police officials.
Special IG and DIG Darjeeling range Ramesh Babu said that a CID team led by special special IG P K Dutta would look into the Tamang murder case, reports said.
Babu said that Dutta had already arrived in Siliguri and was expected to move to the hills by the evening, said reports.
He said that a CID team headed by DSP DP Dong yesterday paid a visit to Darjeeling for a preliminary probe, reports said.
Tamang, 64, was stabbed to death in public on Friday near Chowk Bazar.
The ABGL has accused the the Gorkha Janmukti Manch (GJM) of the gruesome crime, as Tamang was opposed to its formula of a separate Gorkhaland state and had exposed the misdeeds of GJM supremo Bimal Gurung.
As many as eight GJM activists, five of them central committee members, stepped down following its alleged involvement in the Tamang’s murder case, said reports.
