CM has demanded justice for Bhopal

BHOPAL (MPINFO): The Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged the Group of Ministers to give an equitable compensation to the persons affected by Bhopal gas tragedy and take a proper decision on their demands.

In a letter to Chairman of Group of Ministers on Bhopal Gas Tragedy and Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Chouhan has urged him to do justice to the gas-hit people at the proposed meeting of Group of Ministers to be held at New Delhi on January 13.

In the letter, the Chief Minister has appealed to the Centre that in the classification of claims in the death category, deceased persons have been put in the category of permanent or partial injury.

Similarly in some other cases, deaths have not been considered as caused by the effect of the gas and such deceased persons have been placed under general category. This classification does not seem to be justified.

Therefore, 10 thousand 47 cases should be placed under death category and provided compensation to the tune of Rs. 10 lakh each so that the justice can be done to the dependents in total 15 thousand 342 cases. The Chief Minister said that in fact there were 5 lakh 21 thousand 332 persons under the category of partial injury, but no recommendation has been made to provide additional compensation. These cases should also be properly considered and given compensation so that justice can be meted out to the gas-hit people.

The first meeting of Group of Ministers was held between January 18 and 21, 2010 at which Madhya Pradesh government had demanded proper and equitable compensation for gas victims of Bhopal city from the Union Government and it was also demanded that dependents of deceased persons be provided Rs. 10 lakh each and Rs. five lakh each to partially injured persons.
