New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday equated the BJP and its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with the “Kauravas” of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. He said it was the dharma of the BJP to grab power.
“Centuries ago there was huge battle on the field of Kurukshetra. The Kauravas were powerful and arrogant. The Pandavas fought for the truth. Like the Kauravas BJP and RSS are designed to fight for power; like the Pandavas, Congress is designed to fight for truth,” he said.
While the BJP was voice of one organisation, the Congress was the voice of the nation, he said. “The soil of this nation is drenched in the blood of Congressmen and Congresswomen. Gandhiji died for India. India must never forget that when our leaders were sleeping in jail, their leader, (Vinayak Damodar) Savarkar was writing letter begging for mercy from British,” he said.
Attacking the Prime Minister and BJP president Amit Shah, he said, “They will accept a man accused of murder as the president of BJP, but the people will never accept the same in the Congress party. The name Modi symbolises the collusion between India’s biggest crony capitalists and the prime minister of India. Modi gives Modi 30,000 crore of your money and in turn, Modi gives Modi money for marketing Modi and fighting elections.”
However, in an admission of mistakes, he said the Congress had failed to live up to expectations and let down people during the final years of its government. “The Congress must change,” he said. “Congress will take the country forward, but we are humans, we make mistakes.
Modi ji thinks he is not human but an avatar of God,” he added.
