Curfew Continues in Sopore; Shutdown Affects Life in Srinagar
A day after killing of two youths by security forces caused violence, curfew still continued in Sopore while a separatist shutdown affected life in Srinagar, said media reports.
“Curfew continues in Sopore but the situation there is peaceful,” a police officer was quoted as saying in Srinagar.
According to reports, protesters defied curfew and pelted stones at a few places in Sopore.
The curfew was imposed in the town to quell widespread violence as two youths were killed in firing by security forces after a mob attacked and torched a vehicle of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Five people were injured in the incident and were shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
In the meanwhile, life in Srinagar was affected by a separatist shutdown called against the killing of the two youths in Sopore.
Markets were closed and public transport went off the roads.
However, the common entrance test (CET) conducted by the board of professional entrance examinations took place as scheduled with thousands appearing for it.
