Cyclone feared to hit Chennai
CHENNAI: Cyclone Thane is likely to hit the city on Friday morning, says sources.
The regional meteorological department said that the severe cyclonic storm was 700km east-southeast of Chennai on Tuesday evening and might cross the coast near Chennai if it retains its direction and strength.
The city is likely to receive rain, which may get heavier on Thursday and Friday.
According to sources, Regional meteorological department deputy director Y E A Raj said the storm was likely to enter the Chennai regionbetween Cuddalore and Nellore.
The cyclone will hit the city on Friday morning, with heavy rain and severe storms. We expect wind speeds of up to 100kmph. We have sent out alerts to the agencies concerned, said sources.
