Delhi knocked out Punjab, seal top spot

DHARMSHALA: Delhi Daredevils pace attack combined with the swashbuckling display of batting by Aussie opener David Warner knocked out Punjab from the IPL-V edition. Delhi chased down the target of 142 runs easily with solid first wicket partnership of Warner and Chand.

They added 82 runs for the first wicket at a brisk rate of 10 per over. Warner does the bulk of scoring with Chand contributing only 18 runs in the partnership. Warner made 79 in only 44 balls with 4 huge sixes. Venugopal did the final task of taking Delhi to victory.

Ryan Harris and Azhar Mahmood bowled superbly but in the end their target proves too small to defend.
Earlier sent into bat by Delhi, Punjab has a disastrous start.

Umesh Yadav destroyed their top order. At one stage they were reeling at 20/4. Chitnis, Mahmood and Gurkeerat Singh played well to guide Punjab to a decent total. Morkel finished the lower order of Punjab by picking up four wickets.

MJ: “Good end to the league stage, couple of good buys, will start all over again in the playoffs but will look to take the confidence ahead. I don’t remember when I led five fast bowlers, 160 would definitely be a competitive score.”

Gilchrist: “It was a much better pitch, 160 would have been the ideal total. The team fought really well, pleasure to lead the side, suspect this might be the end of the road for me in the IPL but let’s see how it goes.”

Yadav, man of the match: “Not a matter of habit, but good to bowl like this, good track, lot of help on this pitch, swing and bounce is a dream for a fast bowler and this was it. The feeling is always good to get such pitches after bowling on slow and low tracks!”
