Dinamalar News Editor Granted Bail; Charges Not Dropped
Dinamalar news editor B Lenin, arrested on Wednesday following publishing a report accusing top Tamil actors of being involved in a sex scam, has been granted bail.
Lenin, lodged in Chennai’s Pural prision, is expected to released later today. However, despite grant of bail, Lenis still runs the charges leveled against him.
Yesterday, members of the Madras Press club came together in a show of strength to protest the journalist’s arrest, after which he was granted bail today.
The Madras Union of Journalists (MUJ) and employees of Dinamalar protested on Chennai’s Marina beach road. The protestors met with the Commissioner of police and put forward their argument that Lenin should not have been arrested and should have first been summoned.
They added that an enquiry should have been undertaken after which the case should have been taken forward.
