Eelam Supporters Block Army Convoy in Coimbatore
Pro-LTTE activists on Saturday blocked a convoy of 80 military vehicles near Nilambur on Coimbatore and damaged some of the trucks alleging that the materials being transported were meant for Sri Lanka, say media reports.
Workers of Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, MDMK and some other pro-Eelam outfits blocked the supply convoy manhandled personnel and rummaged through the tents, maps and training equipment, being ferried by the trucks.
The agitators also deflated tyres and smashed the ind screens of several vehicles before military personnel retaliated by hitting the activists with iron rods and wooden poles used to erect tents.
A TV reporter covering the event sustained minor injuries, say media reports citing local police.
