Hail-rain alert for 2 days in 11 states: Char Dham Yatra halted after snowfall in Kedarnath-Badrinath, cold in May after 12 years in Rajasthan
Heavy rains are continuing in some districts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The Meteorological Department says that the weather in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Western Himalayan region, Madhya Pradesh in the northwest, Chhattisgarh will remain the same till May 3, after that there is a possibility of change from May 4.
The chills have also increased in 24 hours. In MP’s Bhopal, the minimum temperature went up to 18.6 degrees at 2.30 pm on Sunday. Same situation happened in Rajasthan also. The temperature of 9 cities remained below 30 degrees. Rain and hail fell in most areas of the state including Jaipur, Sikar, Nagaur, Alwar, Baran, Bikaner. Delhi, Punjab, Bihar, UP also saw a drop in temperature by 3 to 5 degrees.
Here, due to heavy rain and snowfall in Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham, the Char Dham Yatra has been stopped in Srinagar. On Sunday, the IMD had issued an orange alert for severe weather in the state for the next four days. In these four days, there is a possibility of hailstorm, thunderstorm with a speed of 70 KMPH and heavy snowfall in the areas of height above 3500 meters. Due to this, the registration for Char Dham Yatra has been closed till May 3. Kedarnath Dham has been receiving intermittent snowfall for the last 13 days. The process of snowfall in Dham started from 18th April.
The minimum temperature is expected to be 20 or less in these 11 cities for the next 2 days.
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature is expected to be 20 or less on May 2 and 3 in Dehradun, Pune, Delhi, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Kohima, Bhilwara, Jalandhar, Bareilly, Gaya, and Hardoi.
Dr. Naresh Kumar, Senior Scientist, Meteorological Department, Delhi said that the temperature is below normal all over India. Temperatures in Delhi NCR, Haryana-Punjab are below normal by 9-10 degrees Celsius. The temperature will remain like this for the next 2 days, after that the temperature may increase by 3-5 degree Celsius. He said that in the coming 3 days, it will continue to rain in the entire North West India. We have given heavy rain alert for Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand.
We have also given an alert for Haryana and Punjab. It will continue to rain in Delhi for the next 3 days, for which an orange alert has been issued.
