New Delhi: Former Congress leader Jagdambika Pal and popular comedian Raju Shrivastav on Wednesday formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The announcement was made by BJP president Rajnath Singh at the party headquarters in New Delhi.
“I met Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and tendered my resignation. I have resigned from my Lok Sabha seat as well as from the party,” Pal had said.
Pal won three Assembly polls and a Lok Sabha election on Congress tickets in Uttar Pradesh where the party is out of power since 1989.
Meanwhile, Raju Shrivastav also joined the BJP today in presence of Rajnath Singh.
Earlier on March 11, Srivastava returned the Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha ticket to contest from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, saying he was not getting enough support from the local units of the ruling party in the state.
