Kasab Charged with ‘Killing 166’
In 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, the prosecution has accused Mohammad Ajmal Kasab, the leading suspect, of killing 166 people as his trial formally began on Friday. The court is also trying his two other India accomplices.
Besides, Qasab runs the charge of firing at CST train station, firing inside and outside Cama Hotel, hijacking of Skoda vehicle, murdering MV Kuber boatman and of firing at Girgaum Chowpatty beach.
Two Indians, Fahim Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed, are accused of being members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group and of scouting for the attacks.
Prosecutor Ujawal Nikam opened the prosecution argument, saying the Qasab was responsible for the murder of 166 people.
“Even though Qasab was actually not present at the time of the firing incidents in hotels Taj and Trident, and Nariman House, he can be held liable for the murders as one of the co-conspirators,” Nikam argued.
Avoiding referring to Pakistan by name, Nikam said the gunmen had training from “intelligence professionals”.
It should be mentioned that India has accused Pakistan-based fighters from Lashkar-e-Taiba of carrying out the attacks. Pakistan has admitted they were partly planned on its soil.
