Love-struck Couple Beaten, Forced to Become Siblings in UP
A village council in Uttar Pradesh, after repeatedly slapping a love-struck couple with shoes for their ‘illegitimate’ love affair, has forces them to tie a rakhi and become siblings, said police on Thursday.
The incident took place late Wednesday in Kukra village in Bijnor district, some 350 km from Lucknow.
According to locals, Pintoo Sharma, 30, and his 28-year-old lover were produced before a village panchayat after they were found sitting together in a garden on Wednesday evening.
A local told reporters that they were first asked to slap each other, but when they refused, villagers started beating them with shoes on their faces. Then, Pintoo was forced to touch the girl’s feet as a sign of acknowledging her as his sister, while the girl made to tie rakhi on his hand. Moreover, panchayat ordered them to move to different villages as part of their punishment.
Police have initiated an enquiry into the matter, but no arrest has been made as yet.
