Major Dimple Singla Court-martialed for Accepting Bribe
For the first time in its history, a woman army officer has been court-martialed for corruption, reported CNN-IBN.
Major Dimple Singla, a judge advocate general, was sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment for allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 bribe to favour an accused during his general court-martial, said report.
She had been facing trial for allegedly accepting bribe for favouring an accused during his GCM (Section 69 of the Army Act for committing civil offence).
Also, Singla was accused of infringing good order and discipline (Section 63 of the Army Act) when she suggested a defence lawyer to accused Havildar Chandran, report said.
Singla was accused of improperly visiting an Army officer – a defence officer in Chandran’s case – and asking him not to divulge information to media regarding the GCM, said report.
She was arrested by the Army authorities on February 1, when she failed to attend the proceedings, and released later on the orders of armed forces tribunal.
