Mamata Seeks Early Assembly Polls in WB
Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has demanded early assembly polls in West Bengal, said media reports.
Talking to reporters in Kolkata, Banerjee said that assembly elections could be held in the state by the end of the year instead of May 2011 as scheduled, reports said.
She also expressed confidence about her party sweeping the elections, said reports.
However, leaders of the Left Front said that Banerjee’s demand could not be met for want of Constitutional provisions, reports said.
“There is no possibility of early elections. The schedule cannot be changed as it does not depend on the whims of a political leader,” CPM spokesman Benoy Konar was quoted as saying.
It may be mentioned that a secion of the CPM leadership believes that all sorts of Congress-Trinamool truck will collapse, if the elections are held as per schedule.
