Maoists Blast Railway Track in Bihar; 14 Oils Tankers Derail, Catch Fire
Maoists have blasted a railway track between Dighwara and Pipra stations in West Champaran district in Bihar, derailing fourteen oil tankers of a goods train, which caught fire, said media reports.
Officials said that nearly 200 Maoists exploded dynamites to blow up the railway line at Chintamani village at around 2.30 am, reports said.
The goods train, which was on its way to Raxaul on the Indo-Nepal border from Muzaffarpur, reached the place soon after, said reports.
Train has 50 oil tankers attached to it and 14 of them derailed and caught fire, reports said.
Railway authorities reached the spot and detached the rest of the oil tankers, while fire tenders from Muzaffarpur and Motihari fought for more than four-and-half-hours to douse the flames, said reports.
Also, rail traffic on the Muzaffarpur-Narkatiyaganj section remained affected for several hours after the blast, reports said.
From the scene, many posters and leaflets left the Maoists were recovered, said reports.
A combing operation has been launched in the area to apprehend the rebels.
