Modi Suspended, Chirayu Amin Interim IPL Chief
The IPL Commission Lalit Modi has been suspended with Chirayu Amin taking over as the interim chief of the cricketing body, said media reports.
The Governing Council of the IPL held a meeting in the morning in Mumbai to discuss the 22 charges of financial irregularities served to Modi last night via e-mail, reports said.
In a 34-page notice, Modi is accused of allegedly consistent venality – including accepting a multi-million dollar kickback while assigning the telecast rights for IPL matches, and attempting to rig the bids for the two new IPL teams that were auctioned last month.
Modi’s suspension also night by the BCCI also meant that he would not be able to attend this morning’s meeting.
The decision of suspending him came after he twitted that he would chair the Governing Council Meeting. Earlier, he had said that he would not attend the meeting.
The only members of the governing council who were not at Monday’s meeting were Modi, politician Farooq Abdullah, who said he needs to be in Parliament, reports said.
