34 deaths in 24 hours due to rain in MP-UP; Season's first snowfall in Himachal; Badrinath highway closed due to landslide
There is a heavy rain alert in 17 states of the country today. 34 people have died in rain and flood related incidents in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh during the last 24 hours.
The first snowfall of the season occurred in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh on Thursday (September 12). Due to this the temperature suddenly dropped. It has been raining since this morning in many areas including Kinnaur and Shimla.
IMD has issued a red alert in Uttarakhand on Friday (September 13). Landslide occurred due to continuous rain in Chamoli. Due to this, Badrinath National Highway has been closed.
Due to heavy rains in the last two days in Rajasthan, many districts are flooded. Schools in Bharatpur have been closed for 4 days. Schools in Dholpur are also closed till further orders.

Wall of a house collapsed in Delhi, 1 dead; many trapped Due to heavy rains, the wall of a house in Nabi Karim area of Central Delhi collapsed. Many people are trapped under the debris. 1 has died. 3 fire brigade vehicles reached the spot for rescue. So far 2 people have been rescued. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for 24 hours in Delhi.
Alert in 7 districts of Andhra Due to floods, the water accumulated in the low-lying areas is now receding. However, the Meteorological Department said that by the end of September, another round of heavy rains may come. Rain alert has been issued in 7 districts including Srikakulam. Winds can also blow here at a speed of 30-40 km per hour.
Monsoon may return between 19-25 September The Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the southwest monsoon may start returning between 19 and 25 September. Normally the monsoon starts returning from northwest India from 17 September.
The monsoon season ends across India by October 15. The Meteorological Department said that the monsoon season which began on June 1 has so far received 836.7 mm of rain in the country. This is 8% more than the normal rainfall (772.5 mm) during this period.
12 cm rain expected in 5 states on September 14
- According to IMD, very heavy rains (12 cm) are predicted over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya and Odisha.
- There is an alert of 7 cm rain in Uttarakhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
