Mulayam Unveils Lohia Statue in Lucknow
Police attempts to curb his actions notwithstanding, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday unveiled a statue of Ram Manohar Lohia at a hospital in the Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow.
despite police attempts to halt the programme for which, it claimed, no permission was granted – Mulayam Singh egged on by hundreds of supporters, showered flowers and garlanded Lohia’s statue, marking his birth centenary.
Later, the SP chief launched an assault on arch-rival Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati and claimed that the police action was initiated at her behest as she did not want the statue to be unveiled.
“It is shameful on her part. We waited for the chief minister and the government to unveil the statue at Lohia Hospital. When no one turned up, we decided to do it ourselves,” he added.
