Nepal to Ensure Security of Pashpatinath Priests, Rao
On a two-day visit to the Himalayan nation, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, on Tuesday said Nepal government has assured that it will take all measures to ensure the security for Indian priests at the Pashupatinath shrine of Lord Shiva.
Indian priests at the temple were last fortnight assaulted by the Maoists’ who oppose their appointment to the shrine.
Rao said that Nepal government has assured the security of the priests and underlined the religious and cultural ties between the two countries.
She said that politicisation of the issue would be regrettable and would not be conducive to the atmosphere of good relations.
Earlier in the day, Rao offered prayers at the holy shrine and met officials of the Pashupati Area Development Trust.
