Old Boys’ to Celebrate AMU Founder’s Day Today

Bhopal has enjoyed a long association with the university

The city chapter of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association will celebrate the traditions of their alma mater at a function marking their Founder’s Day in the state capital today.

Sir Syed Day—commemorating the birth anniversary of the university’s founder, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan—is a tradition across various chapters of the alumni association.

Khan, a widely regarded philosopher and educationist, was instrumental in the establishment of the institution that continues to remain among the top educational centers in the country.

Bhopal has always maintained strong ties with the institution, as its erstwhile princely rulers contributed financially to the founder for the establishment of university infrastructure.

Nawab Sultan Jehan Begum—the last of the female rulers of Bhopal—also served as the university’s Chancellor between 1920 and 1930. Several facilities at the institution are named after her.

Since its establishment, the university has attracted young men and later women to a campus that has carved a niche for itself on the academic and literary map of the world.

Rededicating themselves to the cause of liberal, multifaceted education that emulates the teachings of Sir Syed, as he is lovingly addressed, the Old Boys’ Association will mark the occasion at the ‘Jashn-e-Bahar’ marriage gardens on Berasia Road.

Proceedings will be presided over by Mahendra Boudh, former Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Senior IAS officer Sufia Farooqui Wali, well-known industrialist Nawab Raza, and Chairman of MHK ITI Dr. Syed Iftikhar Ali will be the guests of honor.

Well-known city personality and senior Aligarian Brij Mohan Sharma will be the special guest at the function, which commences at 7 PM.
