Opposition Attacks Government, PM over Saeed’s Release
Joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party – led NDA ‘outside’ UPA allies Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal on Tuesday refreshed attacks on the government, over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s recent pronouncements in the Lok Sabha vis-à-vis Islamabad’s rope-a-dope tactics on terror.
Raising the issue of a recent Pakistan Supreme Court decision to indefinitely adjourn hearings against alleged 26/11 “mastermind” Hafiz Saeed, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, during Zero Hour, found immediate support from BJP, Shiv Sena, JD(U) and the RJD.
Demanding an immediate response from the government on the matter, the parties claimed that Premier Singh’s recent statements in the Lok Sabha were rendered meaningless by the decision.
The SP chief contended that the postponement of proceedings was a pointer towards Pakistan’s lack of will to target Saeed and proved hollow Prime Minister’s “trust and verify” stance on Islamabad’s actions against terror.
Amid slogans like “Pradhan Mantri Jawab do (PM should reply)” by SP members, Yadav said the Prime Minister had eased pressure on Pakistan that had been built in mthe aftermath of the Mumbai attacks, reported media agencies.
“Pakistan had been isolated after the Mumbai attacks. The world had come to realise that Pakistan is breeding ground for terrorism. But the Prime Minister has accorded it recognition at international scene,” Yadav was quoted as saying by PTI.
The uproar created by Opposition members over the issue forced a half-an-hour adjournment of the House.
