New Delhi: Narendra Modi-led government’s decision to give BJP general secretary Amit Shah a ‘Z-plus’ category security has invited sharp criticism from the Opposition parties.
NCP leader Majid Memon echoing similar views said, “Amit Shah has become a recognized leader of his party so he is given the top-level security.”
BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, however, defended the government’s decision and said that security is given to a person following a national procedure. He added that the security given to Amit Shah is justified.
Shah was on Wednesday accorded a ‘Z-plus’ category security by the Home Ministry following high threat perception, official sources said.
Shah will be guarded by paramilitary CRPF commandos round the clock and armed guards will be posted at his residence, they said.
The former Gujarat home minister, who was instrumental in the BJP’s landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, is presently being guarded by officials of the state police.
