PM to Attend Nuclear Safety Summit in Washington on April 12-13
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will join leaders from 42 nations, when he visits Washington to attend a Summit on Nuclear Security, hosted by US President Barack Obama later this month.
Briefing media persons in the national capital Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said, India welcomed the initiative on nuclear safety.
Premier Singh is scheduled to arrive in Washington on April 12.
At a dinner hosted by President Obama that evening, visiting leaders will discuss the threat clandestine proliferation and illicit trafficking of nuclear material and the possibility of terrorists acquiring atomic material.
The focus of the two plenary sessions on April 13, will be on national measures and international cooperation to enhance nuclear security.
The summit will conclude with the issue of an outcome document on the same day.
