Prime Minister Inaugurates Rewa Airport, Residents Express Joy

The airport project was launched decades ago

Rewa

Marking the culmination of a long-cherished dream of residents in the region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Rewa Airport on Sunday in a testament to the realization of his promise to make air travel accessible to the common man.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Minister-in-Charge for Rewa Prahlad Singh Patel, and several Members of Parliament, legislators, and ruling party office bearers attended the inauguration, along with a host of industrialists and residents from the region.

The airport will shorten travel time for residents in the entire Vindhya region, as until now they had to travel 130-150 kilometers to airports in Khajuraho and Allahabad.

Renewing hopes for the future, people say that the air transport facility will soon see Rewa emerge as one of the most important air traffic destinations in North-Central India. It would also pave the way for industrial investments and global tourism opportunities.

Chief Minister Yadav is scheduled to host top industrial houses for the Vindhya Investor Summit and Regional Industrial Conclave in Rewa on October 23.

Shedding light on the phased development of the airport, authorities have said that the airport opens with landing facilities for 72-seater aircraft, but the infrastructure will be upgraded to facilitate Boeing landings and international flights in the next five years.

The airport, at Bela, on the Rewa-Satna bypass, has been upgraded for opening in record time and now promises to provide crucial air services to scores of people from the city who work in other parts of the country by shortening travel times.

Residents in the region have welcomed the efforts of the state and central governments in the opening of the airport, which is widely regarded as a game changer for the Vindhyas, which for decades struggled for even basic roads and civic infrastructure.

Vivek Singh, a journalist from the region, said, “Those arriving in Rewa after a decade-long gap will not even recognize the city, as so much has changed here in terms of amenities and infrastructure.”

“We have waited a long time for the opening of the airport. Everybody in the city feels that air traffic facilities could bolster the overall development of the region and add to the pace of development we have been witnessing,” he added, with a renewed sense of pride for his hometown.
