Punjab defeated Pune easily
CHANDIGARH: Kings XI Punjab easily defeated Pune Warriors on a difficult batting surface here in Mohali, Chandigarh. Punjab was given an easy target of 116 runs. Shaun Marsh played a fluent inning’s of 64 runs in 54 balls. He was well supported by Gilchrist and Chawla on the other end. Punjab chased the target in 17.4 overs.
Earlier, Pune Warriors was invited to bat first. But they lost wickets at regular intervals. Only Manhas was able to offer some resistance. He made a well played 31 runs in 28 balls. Mascarenhas bowled beautifully and took five wickets for just 25 runs. Mascarenhas is the man of the match for his brilliant bowling.
Mascarenhas: Bit on the surface for me to bowl on. Never had such a surface in India before! Absolutely love playing India, crowds are passionate and it is really nice to win in front of them. Hope to get a win at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in our next game.
Adam Gilchrist: Good to get things started, early days in the tournaments. Bowlers did a good job in getting the movement off the air. Mascarenhas did a good job with the ball, got a couple of good deliveries. The pitch was doing a tad too much because of the storm yesterday and it could be risk to continue playing on this kind of pitch.
Sourav Ganguly: Toss was important but this was a good performance from the Punjab bowlers, we needed to be a lot smarter. Disappointed because we have a good bowling attack, need to be better with our batting. Kept Rahul Sharma away for some time because we wanted to try out our seamers under those conditions.
