Shifting of Shiney delayed due to World Cup final

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja who is sentenced to seven years in jail for raping his maid servent, will be moved from Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail after the World Cup final, according to sources.

On Wednesday after he was convicted by a Mumbai court for raping an 18-year-old at his home in 2009, police arrested him. He fell to his knees and broke down; his wife Anupam supported him and knelt over him to console.

IPS officer on condition of anonymity said, “The topic of shifting the actor out of Arthur Road jail has come up for discussion. Due to the world cup, the decision on where he should be shifted could not be taken.”

The officer added the police force is currently swamped with handling security for the World cup final tomorrow between India and Sri Lanka.

“After the final match, we would get our men and then we could escort Ahuja to either Thane Central jail, Pune’s Yerwada jail or to Nashik jail,” the officer added.

Although the victim turned hostile, the judge has convicted Mr Ahuja on the basis of DNA and other tests that confirms rape.
