Singh Might Reshuffle Union Cabinet: Reports
A day after seeking a change in his portfolio to reduce burden, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has today declined to clarify any further though speculation regarding a reshuffle in Cabinet gain strength, said media reports.
Times of India reported that the Cabinet reshuffle could occur between July 10-15 and that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will call on Pawar again before taking a decision.
Reports said that Pawar is keen on retaining the agriculture portfolio.
The daily also reported that following meeting of the finance minister Pranab Mukherjee with DMK chief M Karunanidhi, speculations are rife that there may also be reshuffle of the telecom portfolio.
According to report, A Raja could be moved out of ministry as the Congress will be testing waters with the DMK, if a reshuffle in the telecom portfolio takes place.
Report said that there may be induction of Ajit Singh, Ram Vilas Paswan and other UP and Bihar representatives in the Cabinet.
A ministerial reshuffle at the Centre has looked likely because of many reasons.
After minister of state for external affairs Shashi Tharoor quit a few months ago, no fresh appointment was made in the foreign office.
There are hints about minister for chemicals MK Alagiri quitting to join Tamil Nadu politics full time before the state assembly elections. Besides, the performance of a few ministers is seen as lacklustre.
It is to be seen whether the PM shuffles his pack before the monsoon session of Parliament or after.
