Two injured in fresh Maoist strike in J’khand, Bihar
In fresh Maoists blasts, two officials were on Thursday injured while a district magistrate had a narrow escape in two separate incidents in Bihar and Jharkhand. The rebels, trying to interrupt the second phase of Lok Sabha polls, were repulsed by security forces after a ferocious hour-long gunbattle.
According to police sources, in bomb explosion an executive magistrate Rajendra Prasad and a constable were wounded near Dadi-Srirampur village in Giridih district in Jharkhand. Elections were being held for eight Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
At the time of blast, they were going to their assigned polling station in the district, about 200 kms from Ranchi, police said.
In another incidence, the security forces spoiled a naxalite attempt to disrupt polling in Bansdera in East Singhbhum, some 165 kms from the Jharkhand capital, after a fierce hour-long gunbattle with the rebels, Inspector General of Police S N Pradhan said.
In Bihar, a poll party, which also carrying a district magistrate, had a narrow escape when suspected naxalites triggered an IED blast in Barthua village in East Champaran district, around 200 kms from Patna, a CRPF official said.
The official informed that personnel from the 153rd battalion of CRPF were escorting the party and some people got minor injuries in the blast.
It should be mentioned that Maoists had yesterday hijacked a train carrying nearly 700 passengers in Jharkhand’s Latehar district for over four hours and bombed a BDO’s office and shot dead a driver after setting ablaze trucks in Bihar. Suspected naxalites had also killed three CPI-M workers in West Bengal.
