UP serial killer, who strangled 9 women using saree, dupatta, arrested
A serial killer accused of murdering a number of middle-aged women in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly has been arrested. The accused, identified as Kuldeep, a resident of Bakarganj in Bareilly, used to target women aged between 45 and 65 years.
He has been committing these murders in deserted places in ​​Bareilly’s Shahi and Sheeshgarh since July 1, 2023, police said.
Police revealed that Kuldeep’s mordus-operandi was that he would strangle these women using the drape of their sarees or dupatta. Police said that in all the incidents of the murders allegedly committed by Kuldeep, the bodies of women were found with a knot of a saree or a dupatta around their necks.

Additionally, clothes, jewellery and Aadhaar cards of four women killed in Sheeshgarh and Shahi areas last year were also recovered from Kuldeep’s possession.
To trace the accused, Bareilly police launched an operation by engaging 22 teams in rural areas of Shahi and Sheeshgarh. Also, footage of around 1,500 CCTV cameras was searched to track the movement of Kuldeep.
Police teams were deployed on continuous patrol throughout a radius of about 25 km.
According to the information received during the investigation in the case, a sketch of the accused was also prepared and released.
As per the police report, Kuldeep was frustrated with the constant quarrels and infighting in his family. The situation worsened after his father, Baburam, married another woman while his mother was alive. Baburam used to beat Kuldeep’s mother at the behest of his second wife.
Kuldeep’s own married life had fallen apart due to his behaviour and his wife had left him.
Kuldeep then resorted to drinking alcohol and soon started targeting women in nearby jungles. He murdered at least 9 women in a span of over a yearg.
After continuous search operations and interrogation of witnesses for about 5 months, Bareilly police arrested Kuldeep.
