Uttarakhand Landslide: 30 Dead 15 Missing

30 people were killed and 50 others were reported missing on Saturday, after heavy rains triggered a landslide in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, some 450 kms from Dehradun. 

Media reports say the recovery of 29 bodies has been confirmed by officials.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) rescue teams are leading search operations, which media reports said were hit by the poor weather conditions.

The hilly region has been lashed by a heavy downpour since Friday evening.

Several houses were also reported to have been washed away in the downpour that has lashed the area since Friday evening.

Dozens of people were still feared trapped inside their homes.
