WB Boat Capsize: Divers Still Looking for 18 Missing

Amid diminishing hopes, strong currents and whirlpools, divers are still scouring the Roopnarayan river in search of the 18 people, including seven children, missing since the boat they were picnicking in capsized midstream in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district on Sunday.

Of the 38 passengers onboard the boat, nine people had earlier been rescued while the remaining 11 swam to safety.

Divers from the Coast Guard, Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT), Kolkata Police, National Disaster Response Force and local villagers are looking for the missing persons, District Magistrate Choten D Lama was reported as saying.

Rubbishing rumours, Lama said reports of rescuers locating a body are not true.
