27 surface water based schemes implemented in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: The Public Health Engineering Department is implementing 27 surface water based schemes for providing tap connections of drinking water to rural families. A provision of Rs. 761 crore 12 lakh has been made in the budget for implementing these schemes in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior districts. The schemes will benefit 614 villages. The sanctioned drinking water supply schemes are being monitored by Madhya Pradesh Water Corporation.
In Bhopal circle, two schemes costing Rs. 287 crore have been sanctioned, which will make drinking water available through taps in the houses at 242 villages. As many as 117 villages will get benefit of eight schemes costing Rs. 91 crore 37 lakh in Indore circle. In Jabalpur circle, 11 schemes costing Rs. 254 crore 35 lakh are being implemented benefiting 181 villages. Six surface water schemes have been sanctioned in Gwalior district. As many as 74 villages in Gwalior circle will get benefit of Rs. 128 crore 10 lakh scheme of Water Corporation.
It is noteworthy that the Public Health Engineering Department has constituted Madhya Pradesh Water Corporation in June 2012. The corporation is also paying special attention on sewage system under the sanctioned schemes.
