5 lakh people to train under Skill Development Mission

Bhopal : A target has been set to train 5.1 lakh persons this year by state-level Skill Development Mission with the cooperation of various State Government departments. Training courses will be conducted in 48 autonomous, government, government-aided polytechnic colleges (except for 21 new polytechnic colleges) and seven autonomous and aided engineering colleges of the state under Modular Employable Skill (MES) Scheme. Due to it, infrastructure and resources available at these colleges can be used to impart job-oriented training to urban and rural youths.

Skill Development Initiative and Modular Employable Skill (MES) projects have been launched by the Union Labour Department. Institutions willing to conduct courses under MES should be registered as vocational training provider (VTP). All the institutions recognised by AIECTE are eligible to apply for VTP. Responsibility of registration in the state has been entrusted to Madhya Pradesh Vocational Education and Training Council (MPCVT).

In all, 1402 short-term courses of various trades are available under MES Scheme. The candidates selected for the training after test are compensated with training and exam fees by the Central Government. Option for conducting courses under MES list is given to vocational training provider institutions as per their capacity and infrastructure. Candidates clearing evaluation exam in prescribed courses are provided national-level certificates by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT).

The State Government has decided that seven autonomous and aided engineering colleges and 48 autonomous and government polytechnic colleges must invariably get themselves registered for VTP. A target has been set that each such institution will impart training to minimum 300 persons per annum. Directives have been given to principals of polytechnic colleges to implement community polytechnic scheme also.
