500 MW Thermal Power Unit Damaged
State’s biggest thermal unit of 500 MW of Sanjay Gandhi Power Station located in Umaria district has been damaged after a tube leakage, said reports.
“The 500 MW unit of Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station of Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL), in Umaria district, has gone out of order following the tube leakage two days back,” a top official of MP State Electricity Board (MPSEB), was quoted as saying by PTI.
The official said that the repair work was on and the unit was expected to recommence power generation by September 22.
However, he said that failure of the unit would have little impact on power scenario given the rise in hydro power generation following good rains.
It may be mentioned that the load-shedding has come down in the state as the electricity demand has gone down from about 5,000 MW to 4500 to 4600 MW .
With good rainfall, he said that the hydel power stations have started generating power while demand from the agriculture sector has dipped sharply.
However, he admitted that the shortage of over 1000 MW still exists during peak hours in Madhya Pradesh.
