74 thousand posters, banners and hoardings removed after imposition of model code of conduct in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: As many as 74 thousand posters, banners and hoardings have been removed in various districts after imposition of code of conduct in Madhya Pradesh. This action is underway constantly since the evening of October 4 in all districts. This was informed by Chief Electoral Officer Shri Jaideep Govind here today. Shri Govind informed that process is underway to send information to Election Commission of India regarding law & order situation following imposition of model code of conduct in the state.

According to Shri Jaideep Govind, 25 thousand posters, 30 thousand pamphlets, 14 thousand banners and 5 thousand cut-outs have been removed so far in districts. There is no report so far about violation of model code of conduct. Excise Department has been asked by Election Commission to send information in prescribed proforma about daily monitoring of sale and stock of liquor. He informed that sector magistrates and flying squads have started tours/visits with the announcement of Vidhan Sabha elections. Directives have been given to all collectors to ensure constant action under Prevention of deforming to Public Property Act.
The Chief Electoral Officer informed that report about state’s law & order situation has been sent to the commission. Police is undertaking constant action following promulgation of model code of conduct in the state. so far, 52 weapons have been impounded. Similarly, 22 kg explosive material, 7 live cartridges, 6 detonator, one magazine and 85 meter wire have been confiscated in Balaghat district. Three live cartridges have been seized in other districts. He informed that 2240 licensed weapons have been deposited by their owners in the state so far. Besides, 3 weapons have been confiscated and 2 licenses cancelled. So far, 739 non-bailable warrants have been served in the state. Meanwhile, action under sections 107/116 has been taken against 87 persons.
He informed that process to include voters’ names in electoral rolls is going on unabatedly in the state. After the conclusion of special summary revision programme in on July 25, 2013, as many as 17 lakh 48 thousand 866 applications under form 6, 7, 8, 8A were received for inclusion of names in electoral rolls, corrections, transfer of names etc. Of these, 13 lakh 56 thousand 194 applications were accepted and 20 thousand 226 rejected. Similarly, 3 lakh 72 thousand 446 applications are under process.
