Action plan for socio-economic rehabilitaion of leprosy patients

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that an action plan will be chalked out for socio-economic rehabilitation of leprosy patients in the state. Quantum of social security pension to leprosy patients will be increased to Rs. 1000 from Rs. 150. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said this during a meeting with Japanese Government’s Goodwill Ambassador and Nippon Foundation Chairman Shri Yohei Sasakawa here today.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that Shri Sasakawa is doing sacred work of serving leprosy patients. The State Government will extend every possible cooperation to him in his mission. Leprosy patients are that part of society, who need maximum assistance. He said that scheme will be chalked out in the state to provide pattas of houses and ration cards under Antyodaya Anna Yojna to leprosy patients in the state. Besides, arrangements for treatment and employment-oriented training of leprosy patients will also be made. Survey will be conducted for starting health centres and Anganwadis in leprosy patients’ colonies. He said that the State Government will work with Nippon Foundation for leprosy patients’ rehabilitation.

Shri Sasakawa said that he has been serving leprosy patients in India since the year 1980. Some leprosy patients need to be imparted job-oriented training after treatment. He suggested that the State Government should make special efforts for this. It was informed that about three thousand 750 leprosy affected persons live in 34 colonies in Madhya Pradesh. Principal Secretary Health Shri Praveer Krishna and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Manoj Shrivastava were also present on the occasion.
