Bhopal (North) legislator Atif Aqeel visited the Ijtema venue at Ghasipura in the Eintkhedi area of the state capital.
Holding consultations with Ijtema Organising Committee members, Aqeel took stock of preparedness for the four-day event.
Preparations for the 77th annual Bhopal Ijtema are currently underway at the venue. Congregation facilities are fast approaching the final stages ahead of the event, which will commence with early morning prayers (Fajr) on 29 November. The event will conclude with prayers for peace, amity, and brotherhood on 2 December.
Striving to minimise the carbon footprint of the event by banning single-use plastics, organisers have made an exception for water bottles. They inform that plastic waste will be crushed into blocks (on-site) before being forwarded to a recycling facility. Dry and wet waste will be segregated and used for composting.
Spanning 600 acres, the Ijtema venue this year has dedicated congregation facilities and accommodation in a 300-acre canopy, which is being given final touches. The other 300 acres will house amenities like parking and wash areas.
The event is made possible by support from the state government and various arms of the district administration. On a recent visit to the venue, Govindpura legislator and Minister of State for Minorities Krishna Gaur had instructed officials to complete road-building activities in the vicinity of the venue well before the start of the event.
Tens of thousands of devotees visit the city to participate in the Ijtema each year.
