Bhopal Collector Issues Poll Directives to Officials

Bhopal district Collector, Shivshakar Shukla, on Friday issued directives to officials to ensure that utmost caution was exercised in the maintenance of paperwork and records of election related work, he was addressing a meeting organized to review preparations for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls scheduled for April-May

He directed officials to draw on the experience of the recent Assembly elections while identifying and setting up polling booths in the district.

Addressing the officials, Shukla said officials should visit poll stations in person and identify and finalise booths and sub-booths after a scrutiny of the number of voters residing in the area.

He ordered officials to ensure that poll booths were equipped with all basic amenities.

He further asked SDMs to tour the district before certifying that all wall writings and wall paintings had been cleared from the area.

He also directed the officials to refrain from sanctioning leave for their subordinates without the approval of the district election office.

He urged officials to discharge election related duties with impartiality, fearlessness and transparency.

Officials at the meeting were also directed to ensure that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were displayed in rural areas and their working explained to villagers.

Shukla also asked Booth Level Officers to distribute voter identity cards with care and not hand over the same to any person other than the actual card holder, he asked the officers to submit details of card distribution to the district election office on an everyday basis.

Issuing guidelines, the Collector also directed the arms dealers to dispatch the daily report of the arms deposited with them and said that the weapons should not be returned to the owners before May 21, 2009.
