By 2015 Madhya Pradesh’s capacity of renewable energy is expected to reach 3847 MW

Bhopal: By 2015 Madhya Pradesh’s projected capacity of renewable energy is expected to reach 3847 MW which will be approx. 21% of the total generation of renewable energy in the country. It was at the instance of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, his vision and outlook that Renewable Energy Department came into existence three years back in the state. This was disclosed by Additional Chief Secretary, Renewable Energy Shri S.R. Mohanty at ET Power Focus Annual Summit in New Delhi today.

Addressing the session of success stories in the state Shri Mohanty through audio visual presentation informed that since the inception of this department in only two year (April 2012) total installed capacity was 438.24 MW which is expected to increase to 1065 MW in April 2014. Of this, energy generation from wind increased from 314.89 to 473 MW and solar increased from 2 MW to 404 MW.

Shri Mohanty informed that before framing the renewable policy of the state, the draft was shared with all stakeholders, formulation process was kept open, and consultations were held with financial institutions. With the new policy in force, land allocation procedures are further simplified, no environmental impact assessment for the upcoming projects in this sector is required. No more land and project related inspection, simple process with minimum documentation, no permission for construction from local bodies, transparent project clearance and monitoring are some of the main features of the policy. Apart from this, no electricity duty and cess for next 10 years, no VAT and no entry tax. The whole process is much more simplified and every thing is available on the state government web site to make the process transparent. Now with the new policy in action there are approx. 275 projects in renewable energy sector which is expected to generate 4665 MW. Of 275 projects 118 are in solar sector, 81 in wind and rest in biomass and hydro.
