CG Cops Probe Extortion Threats to BJP MLA

Chhattisgarh police are probing for Maoist involvement in a recent extortion threat received by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Renuka Singh, she represents the Premnagar assembly segment in the rebel-hit Surguja district of the state.

Top police officials speaking to correspondents said an FIR into the matter has been registered at the Ramanuganj police station and added that rebel-involement in the matter was being probed.

The letter, seeking around 13 Lakhs in extortion money from the BJP leader, was allegedly sent by some Maoist rebels, who have also contacted Singh over the telephone, say media agencies citing police officials.
