CM holds discussions with NITI officials in New Delhi

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited NITI in New Delhi today and sought information from senior officers of Central government’s coordination and management-related departments about Centrally-sponsored schemes. Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa was also present on the occasion.

It is noteworthy that Shri Chouhan is Convener of the sub-committee on rationalisation of Centrally-sponsored schemes. A meeting of the sub-committee is to be held on March 27. Taking seriously the responsibility entrusted to him by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister sought minute details of existing procedures etc. with a view to effectively implement country’s development schemes, fiscal partnership between Centre and states.

Referring to Shri B.K. Chaturvedi Committee, the Chief Minister also enquired about rationalisation of schemes. It was informed that as per its wish, number of schemes has now been reduced to 72 including 66 old and 6 new. Of these, 18 schemes are of continuous nature and centre-state partnership is being considered in 38 schemes. Eight schemes have been freed from central assistance. It will depend on states whether to continue them with their resources or discontinue. Accepting recommendations of 14th Finance Commission, the Central Government will provide 42 percent state share instead of 32 percent. Therefore, Rs. 5.26 lakh crore is estimated to be provided to states instead of Rs. 3.48 lakh crore and Rs. 1.78 lakh crore.
