CM writes to Shah on Naxalism, seeks approval for proposals
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting him to expeditiously approve the pending proposals for development works in Naxalite-affected regions of the state.
He also sought the Centre’s assistance in generating employment opportunities in the region on large scale and urged the Minister to approve new proposals sent by Chhattisgarh to eradicate Left-Wing Extremism from Bastar.
Referring to his meeting with Shah last month, Baghel said that the action plan to provide employment in Naxalite areas was discussed and details of the previous pending proposals and new proposals of the state were listed.
They include continuing the Special Central Assistance Scheme, installation of 1,028 mobile towers, approval for an India Defense Corps (IR Battalion), improving resolution of UAV cameras, increasing resolution of the camera used in NTRO UAV provided by the Centre and deployment of Railway Protection Security Force at Kumarasadra (Bastar) and Kamalur in Dantewada to protect rail property.
Similarly, in the Bastar region, to construct the remaining roads of the 1,991-km route approved under the LWE scheme in 2020, a revised approval is needed.
He said there is a great need of OFC connectivity in Bastar and LWE affected area to increase the number of towers for IT & Telecom Infrastructure and to provide 3G/4G network facilities.
Action is underway to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the implementation of the Bodh Ghat project. Approval of other irrigation schemes is also required.
As of October 31, a total of 141 new branches/ATMs have been opened in Naxalite areas. Bank branches have not yet been opened at nine locations, for which the Centre’s initiative is required to instruct the banks.
In the year 2020-21, for the purchase of 38 minor forest produce approved by the government under the Minimum Support Price Scheme and the remaining amount of `100 crore for infrastructure development (godown for mart and district union) and under the Minimum Support Price Scheme, the loss reimbursement is proposed to be made in the earlier years.
Baghel said that the Central Silk Board, Bangalore, has a total proposal of `1,032.54 lakhs under the Integrated Scheme for Development of Silk Industry (ISDSI) from Bastar Division. This also needs to be approved.
The Chief Minister hoped that the support of the Central government will help improve the standard of living of the people of Bastar.
